Policies and Procedures
Tuition: Tuition is due by the 1st of each month via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). The account you provide will be charged on a monthly basis. Notice to discontinue Kumon must be provided in writing at least 45 days prior to leaving and an exit interview must be conducted before tuition deductions are stopped.
Hours: The center is open on Mondays and Thursdays 3:30 – 7:00 pm. Students enrolled in only one subject should arrive no later than 6:30 pm and students taking two subjects should arrive no later than 6:00 pm to ensure that they have sufficient time to complete class work. The student’s time in the center may vary depending on the student’s level, age, worksheets assigned, and if new concepts are being introduced. Students arriving after the 30 minute mark will be asked to pick up class work and exchange their homework.
Schedule for Early Learner Students: Since the students working in the Early Learner levels involve a great deal of direct contact, we schedule students to arrive at a specific time. Please arrive promptly at your child’s scheduled time. If you are unable to bring your child at the specified time, please call us by 10:00 am the day of the class to see if it is possible to reschedule for a different time slot.
Class Attendance Days: Center work is a vital part of your child’s program. Observing and listening to students in the center is vital to the instructor’s planning. This allows the instructor to make necessary adjustments for your child as he or she progresses through the Kumon program. If your child is unable to attend class, please contact the Center by 10:00 am the day of class, so that we can make alternate arrangements for you to drop off and pick up new assignments.
Center Calendar and Closings: Kumon is a year-round program of study and homework is assigned 365 days per year. We do observe some national holidays as well as break in the summer and at the end of December. Specific dates of Center Closings will be announced ahead of time. In the case of inclement weather, the Center will follow the Anne Arundel County Public School policies for closing. If the county schools are closed or dismissed early due to weather, then Kumon will also be closed for that day. Your child’s safety is our top priority.
Home Grading: We request that ALL parents grade their child’s worksheets at home on a daily basis. Home grading takes approximately 5 minutes each day and the benefits are long-term. Home grading allows students to correct any mistakes immediately in order to learn from their errors and avoid repeating those same mistakes in future assignments. We will provide you with the appropriate answer keys as well as guidelines for you to help grade your child’s work at home.
Kumon Materials: If your child borrows a book from the Kumon library, it must be returned on the following class day. If the book is damaged or lost, a replacement fee of $20 per book will be charged. Answer books for home grading which are not returned in a timely manner will be billed at $5 per book.
Liability: The parent/guardian is responsible for assuring the child’s timely arrival and departure. The Kumon Center of Crofton is not responsible for ensuring that any child stays on the premises. The Center is also not liable for any student outside the center facility, before arrival, or after the student leaves the center. If you choose to leave your child to run a quick errand please be aware of the average length of time it takes your child to complete their work and return to the center before they are finished. Children are not to be waiting for the parent to return to the center.
Absence and Re-enrollment: Kumon North America (KNA) procedures state that students who are absent for 28 days and who do not use Kumon materials are considered "absent". On the 29th day, however, they are considered "discontinued" any cosmic club points that have been accumulated will be forfeited. If a discontinued student returns to resume Kumon study, the KNA registration fee will be charged and the student must take another placement test or achievement test.
Vacation or “days away” from the Center: If you have to be away from the Center for any length of time, we strongly encourage you to take Kumon work with you to avoid breaking your child’s Kumon routine. Work will be provided when notified in advance - same day requests for vacation worksheet adjustments may not be honored. Should you need to take a calendar month off from Kumon, you must notify the Instructor at least two weeks in advance.
Communication with Parents: Regular Kumon information will be sent to parents via email or sent home in the child’s homework bag. Progress reports will be sent every six months. We desire parental input and feedback, but we prefer these at appoint times. You may request a meeting at any time to discuss your child’s Kumon progress, however, please note that meetings will not be scheduled during class time.
